About the project

The Indigenous Product Development project has been developed through the Strategic Tourism Investment Grants program. Indigenous Product Development Project grant applications are invited from organisations for projects that will create an iconic Australian Indigenous tourism experience or product that will provide immersion in Indigenous practices and experiences including cultural stories, art, dance or song for domestic and international visitors. Projects should be focussed on creating an iconic Indigenous experience that also addresses other key issues such as Indigenous employment outcomes (including training and development opportunities), new or quality product development, and/or businesses skills development.

Organisations chosen to deliver Indigenous Product Development Projects will be responsible for ensuring that the project continues after the Strategic Tourism Investment Grant’s funding period—either under their own management or by establishing other suitable ongoing governance arrangements. Proposals which provide sustainable and commercially viable outcomes for the Australian tourism industry beyond the life of the funding agreement will be preferred.

Up to $1 million in grant funding per project will be available on a matched investment basis.

Timeline

Grant applications to deliver the Indigenous Product Development project close at 5.00pm on 30  May 2012.

Successful applicants will need to be prepared to enter into a funding agreement with the Commonwealth within two weeks of receiving advice that they are the preferred applicant; and are strongly advised to consider the draft funding agreement as part of the application process.

It is expected that successful investment ready projects that are funded will commence in June 2012 and be completed no later than December 2013, with the applicant expected to identify key milestones for delivery during the course of the funded project.

It is expected that successful projects continue after the Strategic Tourism Investment Grant funding period.

Grants and funding

Up to $1 million in grant funding per project will be available on a matched investment basis for ‘investment ready’ projects. Indigenous Product Development Projects that are not as developed but can demonstrate a high level of merit may be offered matched investment to complete feasibility studies (on a non-prejudicial basis), with a possible option for further support should these projects become investment ready.  Indigenous Product Development Project applicants will be required to demonstrate matching cash is available over the life of the individual projects, with up to $1 million available for each project.
