Regional Infrastructure Development Fund
Introduction
Regional Development Victoria’s (RDV) Infrastructure Branch provides up to $5 million in government grants for capital works to enhance the economic and social development of regional communities. To facilitate this development, the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) will focus on six priority areas:
- Tertiary education;
- Sustainable industries;
- Industry investment and development;
- Tourism;
- Transport and access; and
- Community and cultural infrastructure.
Purpose
Industry Investment and Development RIDF will offer government grants focussed on attracting new investments into regional communities, and growing or securing the operations of existing regional businesses. The primary objective is to leverage more private sector investment and create new jobs in regional communities. RIDF Industry Investment and Development grants may be available for:
- Industrial estate development;
- Biofuel and LNG distribution networks;
- Part funding of the customer contributions for the connection to or upgrade of utility services (this may include natural gas if locally available);
Application Requirements
Government grant applications need to demonstrate the proposed project’s ability to meet a significant number of criteria. Some of the criteria for assessment includes:
- Does the proposed project attract new investment, or complement other investments in your region?
- Demonstrate how the proposed project will create new jobs
- show how the proposed project facilitates the integration of your region into global markets, including opportunities for exports or import replacement.
- Identify any other ways in which your project will stimulate or maintain economic growth in your region
- Demonstrate how the proposed project enjoys relevant local community and/or industry support.
- Show how the proposed project is consistent with ESD during construction and operational phases
- Indicate how the proposed project will contribute to or build on identified key regional strengths and how it adds value and benefit to existing products and services.
- Demonstrate how the proposed project provides an adequate social return to the community, and indicate who else will benefit from this project.
- Show how the proposed project is consistent with objectives and key outputs of local or regional economic development strategies, including Municipal Strategic Statements
- State how the proposed project is consistent with the Victorian Government’s stated policy commitments to regional Victoria.
- Identify project risks and how these are to be managed
- Demonstrate that your project is financially viable in construction and operation.
- Identify the opportunities for increasing the skills of Victorians and Australians and the potential to undertake innovation, research and the development of technology.
