What is the Alpine Resorts Winter Support Program?

The Alpine Resorts Winter Support Program is a grant opportunity to assist businesses in the Alpine Resorts manage the ongoing impacts of coronavirus (COVID-19).

 

Background

The $16.09 million Alpine Resorts Winter Support Program is made up of $4.4 million announced on 6 June 2021 as part of the Victorian Government’s $32.2 million Regional Tourism Support Package with an additional $1.29 million in funding made available on 21 July 2021, $4.8 million announced on 28 July 2021 and $5.6 million announced on 6 August 2021. This funding will assist businesses in Victoria’s Alpine Resorts, Dinner Plain and key businesses in the surrounding towns who were most impacted by recent COVID-19 circuit breaker action to continue to operate for the 2021 winter season and provide a COVIDSafe ski season.

The Program is delivered by the Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions.

 

Objectives

The Alpine Resorts Winter Support Program has the following objectives:

  • To support entities in the Alpine Resorts, who have generally not qualified for the Commonwealth JobKeeper or Victorian Government business support packages to date, manage the impacts of COVID-19.
  • To assist these entities to recover post the COVID-19 pandemic and provide them with an opportunity to trade in winter 2021 with an attractive and competitive product against resorts in New South Wales and New Zealand which were open for business this year.

 

Funding

The Program is being delivered through two funding streams:

Stream 1: On-mountain and Dinner Plain businesses

  • Up to $58,000 per premises for employing businesses (registered with WorkSafe Victoria)
  • Up to $33,000 for businesses not registered with WorkSafe Victoria.

Stream 2: Off-mountain businesses

  • Funding will be up to $18,000.

 

Eligibility

Stream 1: On-mountain and Dinner Plain businesses

To be eligible for support under the program’s On-mountain and Dinner Plain stream, applicants must operate a business within a Victorian alpine resort or Dinner Plain in one of the following categories:

  • A food and beverage venue (restaurant, café, pub, bar or other food venue)
  • A retail outlet (rental, clothing, footwear, equipment, supermarket, pharmacy, gifts)
  • A business providing services directly to visitors or contributes to the visitor experience (transport, activities, entertainment, health and wellbeing)
  • An accommodation business with a public on-site food and beverage venue or retail outlet.

Eligible businesses can only receive a grant for either the On-mountain or Off-mountain stream – businesses cannot receive funding from both streams.

Stream 2: Off-mountain businesses

To be eligible for support under the program’s Off-mountain stream, businesses must:

  • Be located within one of the following Local Government Areas:
    • Alpine Shire
    • Mansfield Shire
    • Murrindindi Shire
    • Baw Baw Shire
    • East Gippsland Shire.
  • And provide, as primary activity of the business, one of the following:
    • Rental of snow equipment (including snowboards, skis, boots and clothing) for use within a Victorian alpine resort
    • Winter tours within a Victorian alpine resort
    • Bus transfers to, from and within a Victorian alpine resort.

Applications close 20 August 2021.
