What is the COVID-19 Micro and Small Business – Border Closure Critical Support Grant?
The COVID-19 Micro and Small Business – Border Closure Critical Support Grant is a program which aims to support Tasmanian micro and small businesses that have suffered severe hardship as a result of the lockdowns and border restrictions that are in place in other states.
Background
The COVID-19 Micro and Small Business – Border Closure Critical Support Grant program targets small and micro businesses operating in the tourism, hospitality, arts, events, seafood and transport (hire car, coach tours) sectors, and other businesses severely impacted by COVID-19.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a reduction in turnover of at least 30% as a direct consequence of the lockdowns and border restrictions in other states, as a result of:
- a reduction in the number of visitors being able to travel to Tasmania, and/or
- a reduction in the ability to provide, sell, or import/export goods and services.
To be eligible for a grant, a business must demonstrate that as a direct consequence of the lockdowns and border closures restrictions, they have experienced a reduction in turnover of at least 305 for a minimum consecutive 2-week period from 26 June 2019 or 2020 compared with any equivalent 2 weeks after 26 June 2021.
Funding
Grant funding amounts will be determined based on a business’s turnover (exclusive of GST):
Tier 1 – $7,000
- annual turnover of $25,000 to $49,999
Tier 2 – $14,000
- annual turnover of $50,000 to $1 million
- have no employees
Tier 3 – $35,000
- annual turnover of $50,000 to $1 million
- currently employ staff
Tier 4 – $60,000
- annual turnover of $1 million to $5 million
- currently employ staff
Tier 5 – $110,000
- annual turnover of $5 million to $10 million
- currently employ staff
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must be:
- a Tasmanian business with a minimum annual turnover of $25,000
- able to demonstrate having suffered severe hardship as a result of lockdowns in other states and current border closures from 26 June 2021
- a business that has not received a grant under the previous Business Hardship – Border Closure Critical Support Grant (now closed)
- registered for goods and services tax (GST) with a continuously active Australian business number (ABN) on or before 1 May 2021
- an actively operating business that has suffered at least a 30% reduction in turnover as a direct result of lockdowns in other states and current border closures from 26 June 2021
- registered (if required) and actively using the Check in TAS App, or register at the time of submitting an application.
