What is the Games and Interactive Fund?
The Games and Interactive Fund is a grant opportunity to boost the growth of WA’s digital games sector by supporting content development, capability development and strategic industry building opportunities.
Background
Australian-made games are rocketing to the top of global sales charts. Our time zone means we keep development going while North America and Europe are asleep. In 2021, one out of every ten games on Apple’s new Apple Arcade video game platform was made in either Australia or New Zealand.
The Western Australian government has announced $2 million in pilot funding for the state’s digital games and interactive sector. Screenwest will administer the funds, which are also designed to help businesses access the Federal Digital Games Tax Offset. Five WA games studios — SpaceDraft, Hungry Sky, Big Bench Games, Earthlingo, and Black Labs — will attend Gamescom in Cologne via a $50,000 government grant.
Objective
The Games and Interactive Fund aims to:
- help digital games sector to grow and achieve national and international success
- provide valuable networking opportunities
- showcase WA Games studios on the international stage
