  • Generate evidence on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of innovative trial designs compared to conventional methods.

Streams

 

  • Stream 1 of the grant focuses on developing and implementing adaptive platform trials to address unmet medical needs, with funding up to $5,000,000 for new or expanded trials.
  • Stream 2 offers up to $1,500,000 for embedding registry-based randomized controlled trials into existing clinical registries.
  • Stream 3 allocates up to $1,000,000 each for projects that demonstrate the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of innovative trial designs compared to traditional ones, covering both adaptive platform and registry-based trials.

Eligible Entities

Applicants for the Innovative Trials Grant must meet the following criteria to be eligible under the program:

  • Medical research institutes.
  • Universities.
  • Corporations incorporated in Australia, including businesses and not-for-profits.
  • Corporate Commonwealth entities.
  • Joint applications are acceptable, provided there is a lead organisation that is the main driver of the project and is eligible to apply.

Eligible Expenditure

The eligible expenditure for the Innovative Trials Grant are:

  • Minor capital works directly related to the project.
  • Development or installation of research equipment necessary for the project.
  • Employment of personnel specifically for the execution of the project.
  • Covering other direct research costs essential to the project


Funding

The Innovative Trials Grant provides up to $23.7 million is available over two years. Specific funding amounts vary by stream:

Stream 1 (Incubator and Targeted Call for Research): Up to $5 million per grant.
Stream 2 (Targeted Call for Research): Up to $1.5 million per grant.
Stream 3 (Targeted Call for Research): Up to $1 million per grant
