What is the Latrobe Valley Energy and Growth Program?

The Latrobe Valley Energy and Growth Program is a grant opportunity to implement ready community and industry projects that increase the uptake of renewable energy generation, management, and storage technologies, and that draw on local skills and services.

 

Background

The $3 million Latrobe Valley Energy and Growth Program capitalises on the Valley’s extensive renewable energy resource potential, skilled workforce, and proud history of energy and engineering,

The Latrobe Valley Energy and Growth Program makes available $3 million in grants to fund both industry and community-led projects across the Local Government Areas of Latrobe City, Baw Baw, and Wellington.

This new Program will fund implementation ready community and industry projects that increase the uptake of renewable energy generation, management, and storage technologies, and that draw on local skills and services.

It will grow local businesses and capitalise on the Latrobe Valley’s diverse clean energy resources, skilled workforce, and accessible transmission infrastructure connected to the National Energy Market (NEM).

 

Objectives

The objective of the Latrobe Valley Energy and Growth Program is to support the delivery of implementation ready renewable energy project(s).

Funding will be provided for project(s) that:

  • increase the uptake of renewable energy generation;
  • increase the uptake of renewable energy storage;
  • increase the uptake of renewable energy management technology; and
  • utilise local content i.e. skills and services in the Latrobe Valley; and
  • consider social, community and economic benefit; and
  • promote community participation; and
  • reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

 

Funding

Up to $1 million is available.

 

Eligible Projects

The Latrobe Valley Energy and Growth Program will fund the implementation of new renewable energy projects that:

  • deliver social, economic and environmental benefits to communities and businesses in the Latrobe Valley;
  • utilise technology that is implementation-ready renewable energy or new energy generation, storage and technology;
  • utilise skills and services in the Latrobe Valley;
  • are located in the Latrobe Valley; and
  • will be completed by August 2022.

 

Eligible Applicants

In addition to meeting the program objectives organisations must:

  • be able to demonstrate that the organisation has at least three years operating history; and
  • have an Australian Business Number (ABN).

Matched funding is not required; however, applicants must have secured or have a plan to secure a cash contribution towards the project (minimum of 10%). Applications with higher funding contributions will be viewed favourably. 

Applicants should review the program guidelines to confirm their eligibility.
