Leadership 21

SME’s can undertake management education training through Mt Eliza for 20% of the cost.

What is Leadership 21?

Leadership 21 is specifically designed to meet the needs of Owner/Managers of Australian SME’s. Leadership 21 was designed in partnership with Enterprise Connect, in consultation with Owner/Managers, and is based on outstandingly successful programs from New Zealand and the UK.

How will this help me and my business?

Leading an organisation can be isolating and stressful – especially in a world that is changing faster and faster. New technologies, changing markets, changing government regulations, even successes such as growth and expansion inevitably create new challenges. With so many demands on your time, it is easy to become reactive.

Leadership 21 is an opportunity to work ‘on your business’, rather than ‘in your business’. Take the time out to do strategic planning and implement business improvements, with the support of a business coach and leading world experts. Connect with a network of other Owner Managers, much like yourself. Update and expand your business, leadership and management skills.

This program is based on similar programs which have been very successful in the UK and New Zealand. Participants report business growth, increased revenue, increased profitability and improved work/life balance.

About the program

The program includes:

  • Five one on one coaching sessions, with a qualified business coach
  • Six group coaching sessions, in which you will connect with other Owner/Managers facing similar challenges to yourself
  • Four workshops (‘modules’) in which you will learn from leading experts in business, leadership and management on topics including Business analysis, Strategic planning, Managing people and Marketing and sales.

Media Release

CEOs and owners of small and medium business around the country can now benefit from an innovative new leadership training program.

The Minister for Industry and Innovation, Greg Combet, announced today that Enterprise Connect’s successful Leadership 21 program has been opened to all small and medium businesses.

“Enterprise Connect has embarked on a mission to improve management skills in small and medium-sized enterprises,” Mr Combet said.

“It is imperative that Australian businesses have the management skills and capabilities needed to compete in a global environment if they are to succeed and prosper.”

The Minister for Small Business, Brendan O’Connor, said access to good advice and mentoring was critical for Australia’s hardworking small business owners.

“Small business is the engine room of the Australian economy, with more than two million businesses employing almost five million Australians and contributing more than 20 per cent of GDP,” Mr O’Connor said.

“The Gillard Government is determined to create the environment in which small businesses not only survive, they thrive. Leadership 21 will equip them with the skills they need to enable their businesses to grow.”

Leadership 21 is a national leadership development course for CEOs and owners of small and medium businesses.

It features action learning, one-on-one coaching and peer work, and combines management theory with practical implementation projects.

Enterprise Connect awarded Mt Eliza Executive Education/Melbourne Business School a $2 million grant to transform the current Leadership 21 offering into a program open to small and medium businesses.

This follows the successful pilot of Leadership 21 in 2011, when Mt Eliza delivered the Leadership 21 program to Enterprise Connect clients.

Mr Combet congratulated alumni of the Mt Eliza School who met at the campus today to celebrate their successful completion of the program and share experiences with leaders in businesses which have completed the program in other States.

Over 160 small and medium businesses are undertaking or have completed Leadership 21.

Participants have been impressed with the syllabus and the calibre of presenters, and have reported significant improvements in their business and their individual leadership performance after leaving the course.

Melbourne Business School Deputy Dean Executive Education, Professor Paul Dainty, said: “To take their business to the next level, business owners often need skills, knowledge and new insights, but their time is limited. This is where short, executive education like Leadership 21 has real value.”
