Victoria’s Small Business Festival is an annual, month-long program of events held during August across metropolitan and regional Victoria. The festival includes an extensive program of hundreds of events that provide inspiration, ideas and information to small business owners to help them start and grow their businesses.

Events cover a wide range of practical topics to improve productivity such as business planning, marketing, social media, networking, financial management and much more.

Victoria’s Small Business Festival is Victorian Government initiative. It is coordinated by Small Business Victoria in collaboration with other government agencies, industry groups, and businesses and private sector organisations to stage festival events.

This year’s Small Business, Big Future exhibition has as its theme success through best practice. Featured businesses will demonstrate best practice, in particular, how they have made effective use of Government support services.  As examples, they may have had assistance from the Victorian Business Line, attended a business workshop, undertaken business mentoring, participated in a trade mission, received a grant to grow their business, or other.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible, the business must have been established from a Victorian base for 12 months as at 1 May 2012 and must be able to show how they have worked with a State Government department to achieve growth and success.

A small business is defined as employing up to 20 people. It can be regionally based or in a city and can operate in any sector or industry.

Small Business Victoria is now seeking nominations from across Victoria for suitable small businesses to feature in this year’s exhibition. Any successful small business may nominate themselves or a business they know to be considered.

What happens to nominated businesses?

Nominations close on Friday 1 June, 2012.  All nomination forms will go to a selection panel at Small Business Victoria and up to 10 successful nominees will be chosen to profile. They will be visited at their workplace and the exhibition will then be manufactured and staged.

A media program will be developed by Small Business Victoria to support the exhibition and information on the profiled businesses will be provided to journalists.

After the exhibition is finished, all businesses will be able to use their materials and copy (supplied on CD) for their own publicity purposes.

Where will the exhibition be held?

The exhibition will be held in The Atrium at Federation Square, Melbourne from 3-17 August and then may move to another city location and a regional location.
