Overview

The Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Program (TAAP) provides funding to non profit organisations to provide information, community education, advice and advocacy services to public and private tenants in NSW.

Background

NSW Fair Trading is responsible for the administration of residential tenancy and parks legislation and TAAP assists the Government to achieve its consumer protection and social justice policy objectives through the ‘direct service’ provision of information, dispute resolution services and advocacy on behalf of tenants. In addition, TAAP provides a range of specialist ‘resource’ services and community engagement activities. The services provided by TAAP provide a particular focus for vulnerable and/or social housing tenants.

Eligible Applicants

The TAAP provides funding to incorporated not-for-profit organisations for the operation of tenancy advice and advocacy services to residential tenants throughout New South Wales.

Applications cannot be made by:

  • organisations based outside of New South Wales
  • organisations not incorporated
  • for-profit organisations
  • landlord organisations.

Eligible Activities

The TAAP program funds both direct services and resource services.

Direct services assist tenants to understand and enforce their rights under the legislation through the provision of tenancy information and advice, and advocacy on their behalf.

Resource services provide assistance and support to the direct services to enable them to achieve high quality service provision.

Funding

$9.26 million per annum is currently available under this program.

Timing

Applications for tenants’ advice and advocacy service providers under the 2013-2016 Tenants’ Advice and Advocacy Program are now open.
