About

Target Area Grants will provide funding of between $50,000 and $2 million for projects to maintain ecosystem services, protect our conservation estate, and enhance the capacity of Indigenous communities to conserve and protect natural resources across six target areas:

Within these Target Areas, proposals must address one or more of the following Investment Themes:

  • conserving and protecting species and ecosystems (matters of national environmental significance);
  • restoring and maintaining urban waterways and coastal environments;
  • protecting Ramsar sites and values;
  • protecting World Heritage sites’ outstanding universal value and integrity;
  • Indigenous community capacity building for natural resource management, and
  • natural resource management community skills, knowledge and engagement.

 

Objectives

The three strategic objectives of the Sustainable Environment stream of Caring for our Country, Target Area Grants are:

  • maintenance of ecosystem services, including ecological and cultural values, now and into the future
  • protection of our conservation estate
  • enhanced capacity of Indigenous communities to conserve and protect natural resources.

 

Funding

Target Area Grants will provide funding of between $50 000 and $2 million for projects to maintain ecosystem services, protect our conservation estate, and enhance the capacity of Indigenous communities to conserve and protect natural resources across six target areas.

 

Eligible Applicants

Any individual or organisation capable of entering into a legally binding contract can apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria in the Target Area Grants 2013–14 Applicant guidelines.

To be eligible, projects must:

  • address one or more of the investment themes
  • be able to be completed by mid 2018
  • be seeking a grant amount between $50 000 and $2 million
  • have 100 per cent of each project site located within a Target Area.

 

Eligible Projects

Within these Target Areas, proposals must address one or more of the following Investment Themes:

  • conserving and protecting species and ecosystems (matters of national environmental significance)
  • restoring and maintaining urban waterways and coastal environments
  • protecting Ramsar sites and values
  • protecting World Heritage sites’ outstanding universal value and integrity
  • Indigenous community capacity building for natural resource management
  • natural resource management community skills, knowledge and engagement.

 

Timing

Closing date for invited Full Target Area Grant Applications is 3 June 2013.
